The analysis also notes cases of individuals transitioning from Google to Apple. However, the predominant trend in Apple’s workforce shows a historical connection with Intel, Microsoft, or Amazon.
The Switch on Business team scrutinized LinkedIn profiles across various tech companies, initially focusing on Google (Alphabet), Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, IBM, Tesla, Oracle, Netflix, Nvidia, Salesforce, Adobe, Intel, and Uber to determine their current workforce. For each pair of companies, the team conducted searches for employees currently working at each tech giant who had previously worked at the other company in the seed list. They then calculated the quantity and percentage of existing employees at each tech giant with prior experience at other tech giants. This comprehensive dataset allowed them to present detailed breakdowns of prevalent career pathways among tech giants.
Apple actively recruits from Amazon, Adobe, and Google, while departing Apple employees show a preference for joining Google.
Apple tends to recruit from a set of ten tech firms, such as Amazon, Adobe, Google, IBM, Intel, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, Oracle, and Tesla. The preference for Intel employees aligns with Apple’s 2019 acquisition of Intel’s smartphone modem business, supporting Apple’s goal of developing its radio chips.
Upon leaving Apple, employees frequently move to Google, followed by Amazon. The top ten companies former Apple employees prefer are Google, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Tesla, Nvidia, Salesforce, Adobe, Intel, and Oracle.
Former Apple employees are given priority by Google
According to the research, Google places considerable importance on hiring talent from Apple and extends its recruitment efforts to other prominent tech companies, including Microsoft. Google receives approximately two million job applications annually, leading to the hiring of around 12,018 individuals with prior experience at Microsoft.
Meta boasts the highest percentage of employees with past experience in the tech industry, reaching 26.51%, followed by Google at 24.15%, and IBM at 2.28%. Remarkably, 3,363 individuals who were formerly part of Google’s workforce have shifted to Meta for new career opportunities.
