Clyde AI Discord chatbot discontinuation is in progress.
2 min readDiscord has announced its decision to deactivate Clyde, its experimental AI chatbot, by the end of the month. Commencing December 1, users will lose the ability to summon Clyde in Direct Messages, Group Direct Messages, or server conversations.
Earlier this year, Discord tested Clyde’s AI capabilities, allowing the chatbot to respond to queries and engage in conversations using OpenAI’s models. Despite initial trials being limited, the company initially intended to integrate Clyde as a fundamental element of its chat and community application.
Clyde is set to be deactivated by the end of the month, starting December 1, 2023, and users will no longer be able to summon Clyde in various chat contexts. The Clyde support page expresses appreciation for user support and feedback, highlighting ongoing efforts to introduce new features and enhance user experiences.
Discord users have the option to integrate Clyde, an AI chat integration, into their servers. As an experimental feature, Clyde empowers users to explore new information, including facts, tips, and humor, and supports interactive activities such as trivia games. Additionally, it offers suggestions for movies, books, and various other subjects, providing a platform for users to express themselves and engage in discussions on diverse topics.
The reason for Clyde’s sudden discontinuation remains uncertain. There is speculation that the chatbot could potentially return as an exclusive Nitro feature in the future, or Discord may have decided that integrating an AI chatbot into its service is unnecessary. Presently, the company has not released an official statement regarding the shutdown of Clyde.
Discord has been exploring various AI functionalities, such as the introduction of AI-generated conversation summaries, which proves beneficial for users catching up on discussions, especially in servers spanning multiple time zones. Furthermore, Discord is positioning itself as a hub for AI developers, providing financial support and resources to assist developers in creating AI applications tailored for the Discord platform.
