Review of the HiBoy S2 Max Electric Scooter
4 min readContents
Form and Construction
I’ll be straightforward—this marks my second experience with an electric scooter. I don’t employ it for commuting or as a substitute for a car or bike; instead, it’s my source of enjoyment on the roads near our house. Therefore, my evaluation and viewpoint are centered on that aspect, and I certainly have some thoughts to share!
First off, the HiBoy S2 Max electric scooter manages to strike a commendable balance between style and functionality. Sporting a somewhat minimalist design, the HiBoy exudes a robust, contemporary, and subtly sophisticated appearance. Enveloped in an all-black frame accented with orange details like the brake cord, the scooter presents a sleek charm, and I appreciate the dark gray tones in contrast to some of the lighter alternatives you might encounter.
Nevertheless, the design of the S2 Max goes beyond mere visual appeal. Every aspect seems meticulously considered, providing a refreshing departure from the trend where every brand employs the same hardware and merely adds their logo. Each component is strategically placed, user-friendly, and easily accessible.
Crafted from top-notch materials, the scooter boasts a robust metal frame and a stable platform, ensuring a secure sensation while riding the unit.
Weighing in at a relatively light 28lbs, the scooter stands out as one of the more portable choices in its category. Electric scooters can vary widely in weight, ranging from approximately 15lbs to 100lbs, making this a favorable weight range.
Coupled with an exceptionally smooth folding mechanism, riders enjoy convenient transportation and storage. This feature is likely to appeal particularly to urban dwellers residing in apartments where space is at a premium. Even though I store it in an unfolded state, the process is effortlessly manageable.
On the subject of weight, the scooter’s lightweight design doesn’t compromise its strength, according to HiBoy, as it can support riders up to 220lbs. Fortunately, I’ve shed some weight recently, but the high-powered motors likely would have handled it regardless.
Performance
Equipped with a 500W motor, the HiBoy S2 Max electric scooter demonstrates robust performance by seamlessly blending speed and range into a comprehensive package. While its top speed of 18.6 MPH may not set any speed records, it provides the optimal amount of torque to navigate urban hills, roads, and streets with efficiency.
The standout feature of the HiBoy S2 Max lies in its impressive range, boasting up to 40 miles of travel distance on a full charge! This is particularly noteworthy when compared to another high-end scooter under review, as it offers approximately double the range, showcasing its remarkable capabilities.
It’s crucial to note that these performance metrics can vary based on factors like the rider’s weight, terrain type, and driving style.
However, in my testing, the HiBoy S2 Max consistently matched the manufacturer’s performance claims, establishing itself as a dependable scooter for your requirements. I have not encountered any issues with the battery, its charge state, or similar concerns throughout my usage.
Battery and Charging
The HiBoy S2 Max’s motor is driven by a sturdy 48V/11.6Ah high-capacity battery, serving as the powerhouse behind the scooter’s impressive speed and range. While some might argue that the tradeoff is a relatively lengthy charging time—up to 6 hours to reach a full charge from 0%—personally, I find this inconsequential, given my experience with electric vehicles.
It’s essential to highlight that the charging duration aligns with the standard charging times seen in electric scooters of this performance class.
Ride Quality
The HiBoy S2 Max prioritizes a comfortable riding experience, evident in its 10-inch pneumatic tires that deliver both comfort and an enjoyable ride. Teamed with an advanced shock absorption mechanism, these components work seamlessly to ensure an exceptionally smooth ride.
Even on uneven roads and surfaces, I have never perceived the scooter as unstable or unsafe.
The dual braking system enhances the overall ride quality by providing reliable stopping power. This not only contributes to the smoothness of the ride but also proves more convenient than dealing with separate front and rear brake levers. When cruising at high speeds and needing a quick stop, the ability to come to a controlled halt without having to think about which brake to use is truly fantastic.
Integration with Mobile Application and Functionalities
Naturally, there’s a dedicated app for the HiBoy S2 Max. Accessible on both iOS and Android platforms, the HiBoy app allows riders to instantly access real-time information about their journey, such as current speed, remaining battery life, and ride statistics.
In addition to offering valuable data, the app empowers users to manage various scooter features. Riders can switch between different speed modes, secure the scooter with a PIN for added safety, and take command of the integrated front and rear lighting system. While these functions can also be controlled from the center console using the power button, having them accessible on your phone adds a convenient layer of usability.
What are my genuine thoughts?
In a market saturated with competition, the HiBoy S2 Max electric scooter emerges as a versatile and formidable contender. While it may not introduce groundbreaking features, it excels in all the crucial aspects that align with my priorities and usage scenarios. The design seamlessly combines modern aesthetics with functionality, performance has proven to be consistently reliable, and the incorporation of smart features aligns it with the expectations of tech-savvy users.
Overall, it provides an excellent amalgamation of design, performance, utility, and cost-effectiveness.
