Twitter initially intended to limit “for you” timeline to “Twitter Blue” subscribers who linked their accounts to a phone number. However, after a company reversal, Elon Musk admitted overlooking the visibility of non-paying users on the timeline.
Following the announcement, numerous users expressed dissatisfaction. Musk later tweeted, “Forgot to mention that accounts you follow directly will also be in ‘For You,’ since you have explicitly asked for them.
Under Musk’s leadership, the “for you” tab has stirred controversy. It is more actively curated than its predecessor, often showing tweets from non-followed accounts. Additionally, it emphasizes posts from influential figures like Menswear commentator @dieworkwear, conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, and nearly all public posts from Musk.
In late December, Elon Musk shifted his focus to a specific issue. He initiated a poll questioning whether he should resign as the company’s head, labeling it a “binding” poll. In 24 hours, over 10 million users voted, with 57.5% supporting his resignation.
The next day, Musk replied by tweeting “interesting” to suggestions that the poll results were swayed by fake accounts. He endorsed the notion that only paid accounts should be eligible to vote in polls. On Tuesday, Musk declared through a tweet that this policy would take effect on April 15th.
