How does the AI-driven Google Search operate?
During the conference, Google demonstrated the Search Generative Experience (SGE) by querying, “what’s better for a family with kids under 3 and a dog, Bryce Canyon or Arches.” Instead of traditional blue links, a generative AI block displayed on the search results page provided a detailed and conversational answer. Notably, it highlighted that both parks restrict dogs on unpaved trails but mentioned two paved trails in Bryce Canyon allowing dogs. This allowed users to get the information directly on the Search page without visiting other sites.
Beneath the AI-generated response, Google offers interaction options like pre-written follow-up questions and the ability to craft custom follow-ups. Choosing any of these prompts initiates a new conversational mode, maintaining context from the initial question. Essentially, users can engage in a comprehensive conversation with Google Search.
Moreover, for product searches, Google’s latest generative AI shopping experience delivers a summarized overview of essential considerations and relevant product recommendations. It also provides access to product descriptions, recent reviews, ratings, prices, images, and more, facilitating the decision-making process.
